When I reflect on the Plant Identification I created, we were able to hit on multiple state standards required by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. The individual tasks for the Horticulture curriculum can be found here: https://www.education.pa.gov/K-12/Career%20and%20Technical%20Education/Programs%20of%20Study/Pages/Framework.aspx and the state standards crosswalk can be found here: https://www.education.pa.gov/Documents/K-12/Career%20and%20Technical%20Education/Programs%20of%20Study/Framework/Ver%20D%20Crosswalk/01.0601%20Applied%20Horticulture.pdf.

For this presentation, students are exposed to the following tasks:

901

Outline the proper use of plant material in various segments of the horticulture industry.

902

Determine the impact of environmental factors on plant materials.

903

List the identifying characteristics of various plant categories associated with plants in the horticulture industry.

904

Identify 100 plants used in horticulture industry by horticultural reference/botanical reference. (65 need to be woody trees & shrubs and herbaceous annuals and perennials)

For this presentation, students are exposed to the following standards. Key Ideas/Details Standard PCS.3.5.9-10.A Standard PCS.3.5.9-10.B Standard PCS.3.5.9-10.C Integrate Knowledge/Vocabulary: Standard PCS.3.5.9-10.G, Standard PCS.3.5.9-10.H and Standard PCS.3.5.9-10.I. This is done through going over various plant ID concepts accompanied by imagery throughout the presentation. In nearpod activities were also included including matching, drawing and fill in the blank. This is then capped by students being able to start their own plant card collection in the class.

Overall I think the use of Nearpod presentations can be quite intensive and keep the attention of students to do well. It keeps student attention through motion between stopping points and can zero in on vital content as needed. I am actually going to start using Nearpod presentations in my class more often as a result!
