When I reflect on the Diverse Learner Video I created, I thought about this project more as the individuals we work with in class compared to the state standards. The individual tasks for the Horticulture curriculum can be found here: https://www.education.pa.gov/K-12/Career%20and%20Technical%20Education/Programs%20of%20Study/Pages/Framework.aspx and the state standards crosswalk can be found here: https://www.education.pa.gov/Documents/K-12/Career%20and%20Technical%20Education/Programs%20of%20Study/Framework/Ver%20D%20Crosswalk/01.0601%20Applied%20Horticulture.pdf.
For this presentation, I feel that viewers would be exposed more to customer/client relations rather than a set of framework concerning the class. When it comes to students within the class, they could be presented with customer service challenges which could make this video a good experience to watch. Students within my class have to take a customer service portion of the NOCTI, which involves prompted interactions with various types of individuals. Low-Socioeconomic learners leading into adulthood are going to be future customers no matter what industry they go into, so this goes hand-in-hand. Personally, working with these students over the years has improved my interactions with people that come from all walks of life. Specifically talking to parents and gaining an understanding of what they’re need are and how to handle the interactions.
Overall I think the use of Video presentations should be used sparingly in the classroom setting. It is harder to keep a student’s attention using video unless you have a required study guide to accompany the video content. I normally use video to show students customer service interactions, engine maintenance, in-class safety issues, among other subjects.
